K M Muraleedharan's Biography

K M Muraleedharan, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Madras

Dr Kannoth M. Muraleedharan received his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. He completed his Ph.D degree in 1999 under the supervision of Professor S. Ranganathan at Regional Research Laboratory, Trivandrum, where he worked on the synthesis of model chemical systems to understand molecular-assembly and -disassembly, the key phenomena involved in every biological function. In 2001, he joined the research group of Professor Mitchell A. Avery at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA, for post-doctoral studies where he was working on development of broad-spectrum anti-infective agents based on artemisinin. In 2006, he joined the department of chemistry at IIT Madras where he is currently an associate professor. His research interests include redox-based drug design approaches for identifying leads against cancer and infectious diseases; synthesis of new functional molecular systems based on synthetic peptides, and development of drug-delivery vehicles based on oxanorbornane-based non-ionic amphiphiles.
