Stephan Fricke,
Investigator,
Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI
Stephan Fricke, physician, specialist in internal medicine and group leader, graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig in 2007. Now, he works at the University of Leipzig and also as Principal Investigator for the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine since 2013. He is a member of the German Society of Immunology and German Society for Regenerative Medicine and got scientific awards in 2007 and 2010. His work deals with transplantation of stem cells in mouse models to investigate immunological complications and anti-tumor effects of new immune therapies. He and his work group developed methods for measurement of immune interactions after stem cell transplantation. He described that an epitope-specific ex vivo modulation of an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell graft by anti-human CD4 antibodies simultaneously facilitates the anti-tumour capacity of the graft (Graft-versus-leukemia-effect) and the long-term suppression of the deleterious side effect Graft-versus-host-disease.
