Lori Snyder's Biography



Lori Snyder, Reader, Kingston University

Dr. Snyder is a Reader in Biotechnology at Kingston University, where she leads a research group focused on the human pathogens Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis as well as exploring comparative genomics of other bacterial species. She also leads the Kingston University Genome Sequencing Facility. Dr. Snyder began genomic analyses during her PhD at Emory University, USA, with Prof. Bill Shafer, where she investigated N. gonorrhoeae and N. meningitidis when these genome sequences first became available. Work on these species continued during her post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford. As a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Birmingham, Dr. Snyder worked on the xBASE genome database and its suite of analysis tools. Dr. Snyder’s research has been supported by the Sparks charity, the British Society for Antimicrobial Therapy, PARK funding from WestFocus, the SWan Alliance, and generous internal funding from Kingston University.

All inverted repeat DNA uptake sequences in the genome predicted by bioinformatics to be intrinsic terminators were investigated by RNA-seq for transcriptional termination.
