Session III: Advances in Diagnosis of Genetic & Infectious Diseases- From Bench to Clinic

14:35

New Advances in Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing- From Research and Clinical View
Fang Chen, Scientist & Project Leader, BGI-Shenzhen, China

This talk will discuss about maternal plasma DNA sequencing-based Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) which relies on the isolation of fetal cells and genetic testing, allow comprehensive interpretation of fetal developmental anomalies at early gestational age and provides clues for possible intervention and treatment in late pregnancy and neonatal period. It will also discuss about other materials, such as urine, saliva and stool, which have been under investigation in research level to explore the applicability of stability in real clinical setting. All these new advances in NIPT will be discussed which will contribute to applications with less invasive risk, simpler sampling process and multipurpose testing in the future.

15:10

Jane CarltonKeynote Presentation

NGS for Malaria Parasite Research and Detection- From Bench to Clinic
Jane Carlton, Professor & Director-Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, New York University, United States of America

15:50

Coffee and Networking in the Exhibition Area

Session IV: Leveraging NGS for Enhanced Disease Understanding

16:05

Dwaipayan BharadwajKeynote Presentation

Use of Extensive Targeted Sequencing over GWAS Findings: Journey from Association to Causality
Dwaipayan Bharadwaj, Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India

This talk will discuss about the role of T2D genome wide association studies (GWAS)findings in context of disease biology. It will further discuss how GWAS gives associated variants. Finally, it will highlight the journey from association towards causality with the help of extensive NGS-based targeted sequencing.

Utpal Tatu, Professor, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, India

12:05

Molecular Diagnostics: For the Clinical Laboratorian
A Srinivasan, Professor, All India Institute Of Medical Science, India

The biomarkers will improve the treatment and reduce the healthcare costs. The discovery of biomarkers is one of the most important areas of current medical research. A survey of literature indicates that the biomarker studies are inadequate. The results have not replaced the old clinical tests nor do they detect diseases at an early stage so that the survival rate is enhanced.
